holiday packing

If you are reading this then my scheduled post has worked, yay!! I am currently in Corsica either lying on the beach, swimming in the sea or enjoying a glass of vino or two (yes, that was an intentional attempt at making you jealous).  And in fitting with me being on holiday I thought I'd give you a sneak peek into a few things I've brought with me.  I'll do a post when I'm back so you can see some outfit shots but here's a little preview in the meantime.

I hate packing to go on holiday, and this year we only paid for one case between me and the boy which means I really have to pack light, ahh!!! So I've tried to work out seven outfits for the evening, minimum amount of shoes and, I hate to say it, as little beauty products as possible.  Now I'm not good at packing light, I hate feeling restricted to wearing only the things I've brought, I always start thinking about the things I've left at home that I'd much rather be wearing but hey, what can I do?!

Do you recognise those shoes in the middle? They're the ones I mentioned here and here, as it was pay day yesterday I decided to treat myself for my holiday.  And they really are comfy, Office weren't lying. I bought them on my lunch break at work yesterday and wore them from 2 till about 8 and my feet didn't hurt, amazing!

Anyway, I best get back to my swimming, sunbathing, drinking, eating, holidaying.  Hope the weather is still great in the UK, but I hope I come back with a better tan :)

stylist trend on trial, trialled: pink lips

There wasn't a Trend on Trial featured in this week's copy of Stylist so I headed back to the archives and picked out one of Joanna's previous trials.  I went for something simple as I've got a busy day ahead and didn't have the time to perfect a look a la last week's double eyeliner.

So I went for the pink lipstick, I admit that it is perhaps a little boring and pretty easy but it was seen on the catwalk of Donna Karan and Alberta Ferrari so it must be good, right?! It's not the first time I've rocked pink lipstick, when I first started writing this blog I was regular wearer of it, then I saw a picture of myself and suddenly felt completely unconvinced that I actually suited it.  I thought with blonde hair and blue eye this would be the perfect shade for me but I'm not so sure.  I'm inclined to agree with Joanna in that it's just a little bit too Barbie, what do you think? Yay or nay?

Anyway, I'm heading out now because tomorrow I go on holiday (yay!) and I'm off to get my eyelashes tinted, has anyone ever had this done before? My lashes are really fair so I figured I'd get them tinted to avoid mascara running down my face when I'm in the sea!!

I've attempted to schedule some posts for while I'm away, but last time I tried to do this it just didn't work, so everyone please keep your fingers crossed.  If the posts don't work, then you'll just have to wait a week to hear from my ugly mug again.

In other news, it's my birthday when I get back on Sunday, so feel free to send presents, anything will do, I'm not fussy ;)

Hope you all make the most of this Sunny weekend, and think of me while I'm lying on the beach in Corsica!!

shorts and stripes outfit post

1. H&M (?) Striped Top
2. Warehouse Denim Shorts
3. Office Boots
4. Rings - I think all Accessorize

Woah, Hello bright photos!  The boy told me they would be too bright with the flash on, but I found I was much less critical of the 'flash on' photos than the 'flash off' photos.  Check out my flawless skin hey?! If only I looked like that in real life...

It's the return of the denim shorts, after posting about them here they've become one of my favourite items in my wardrobe.  They're so versatile, like jeans only a bit more interesting.  Think I might start keeping my eye out for more colours and styles.  I've currently got my eye on just about every pair of these by Missguided, especially the studded ones and the USA flag ones.

Anyway, this is what I was wearing a couple of weeks ago, now that the sun is shining I'll definitely be losing the tights.  Although, not without a lot of preparation first, I'm not a fan of getting my pins out and when I finally decide to embrace legs out I have to have at least two coats of fake tan on them, and a good few hours of deep breathing.  Ok, that sounds a bit OTT yes, but it's true, I really don't like my legs, so getting them out isn't easy.

Also, I wanted to share with you my very excited news.  Last week I was contacted by the Huffington Post and asked if I would like to write a piece for them.  Of course I jumped at the chance.  Then I had a moment of sheer panic, I'd never written anything like this before, all I know how to write about is outfit and make-up, that didn't seem quite Huffington Post standard.  I ummed and ahhed for ages, and then out of nowhere and idea popped out of my head, so I wrote, sent it to them, and they published it, OMG.  I am so excited write now, you can read it here if you want to, I'd love to know what you think of it!

And finally, just because I want to rub it in..it's Friday, it's my payday, the sun is shining and I'm going on holiday on Sunday..what a day!!

What are your plans for this sunny weekend? I say make the most of it, BBQ time...

i'm with the band

I wasn't going to do a post today, but then I was having my daily peruse of the 'New In' items on ASOS, (yes, I really do mean daily!) and I spotted this t-shirt / dress which got my creative juices flowing.  I decided to put together a kind of 'gig' outfit, although I think it would be perfect festival wear too, what do you reckon?  Unfortunately I'm not actually going to any festivals this year, but putting together an outfit is almost as much fun?! (yeah right!)

I absolutely adore this dress, and have styled it up how I would plan to wear it...if I had an unlimited bank account and could afford to get all these extra bits to go with it.  I do think I should invest the whole £22 to get this, you can't go wrong at that price.  Oh, and at some point soon I will be getting my hands on those American Apparel leggings...in the right size.

1. Miss Selfridge Denim Gilet - I'm really into the denim gilets at the moment and this one would give this outfit a cheeky little added something!

2. ASOS Dress with Band Print - only £22...you will be mine!

3. ASOS Skull & Dipped Spike Collar Necklace - how cool is this necklace? Skulls AND spikes, yes please!

4. ASOS Fine Cross Necklace - in reality, I'd probably this bracelet times about another ten, I can't resist an arm full of bangles.

5. American Apparel High Shine Legging - yes I am still harping on about these, but I neeeeeeed them.

6. ASOS Multipack Plain Band Rings - an outfit like this is screaming out for a ring on every finger type situation!

7. Office Nuff Said Cherry Leather - nuff said! Literally though, with a name like that, what more can I say? Oh, other than that they are cherry red which makes me love them either more!

8. Topshop Black Bowler - I love a hat, I love a bowler hat, I love this outfit with a hat.

So what do you think? Do you love this dress as much as me? And if so, what would you style it with? I'm now thinking this outfit could do with a scarf....and a Topshop Brighton Rock Lip!!!

P.S. Believe it or not, this post was NOT sponsored by ASOS, I just have a lot of love for them right now ;)

leopard print and patent clutch outfit post

1. Zara Dress
2. Topshop Necklace
On Saturday night we went out to celebrate the boys birthday and this is what I wore.  I'm a bit disappointed this pictures aren't clearer because I really like this outfit, but as usual(!) I was getting ready right until the last minute and asked the boy to take a few quick pics.  There was no time for veto-ing and re-taking.

We went to Big Easy on the King's Road in Chelsea, if you're London based, love BBQ chicken, ribs, lobster or other generic American food then you should go! It's amazing.  The best bit is, they give you a bib to wear because the food is all so messy.  I had the ribs, BBQ chicken and shrimp combo meal and shared side orders of macaroni cheese and fries, so so good!

And this is what I wore.  This is one of my favourite dresses, it was a treat to myself for my work's Christmas Party the year before last! But this is only the third time I've worn it so it still feels special.

And most importantly the bag, I don't just love the look and style of this bag, I love the fact it's designed by the shoe designer Jonathan Kelsey (it's part of his Debenhams range).  You can just see on the close up picture that it says his name on it...well, my surname is Kelsey too so it's like I have my own personalised handbag!! Jonathan is also from Carlisle, which makes it even better :)

It's not often I get to dress up like this so I like to make the most of it when I can.  Leopard print also features pretty highly in my wardrobe but this dress is by far my favourite item!

I hope you like it as much as I do :)

P.S. I just realised, that perhaps I might actually have been able to pull off my smokey eye look that I trialled here with this outfit, what do you reckon?

weekend wishlist #9

1. I fell in love with this dress after Kat tweeted asking people how they would style this dress, I replied saying either with wedges or strappy flip flops, and since then I keep going back to the website and debating whether to buy it or not.  I love the sunflowers!! They also have it in red and blue, amazing!
2. This was another tweet find, Zara tweeted about this that she had made for herself, I replied saying if she made it I'd definitely buy it.  So, obviously she took my advice but it looks like I'm too late now as it's sold out :( Wouldn't it go perfectly with both of the Glamorous dresses though?
3. Yes, not one, but two Glamorous dresses this week, plus about another 10 I could quite easily have added.  This is lovely, simple and the type of dress you could wear over and over again.
4. So since this post when I decided that actually I think I could do shorts I've become a little bit obsessed with them, I love the studded detailing on these bad boys.
5. Not much to say about this, I just like it :)
6. LOVING this skirt, love everything about it, as usual though it's got an UO price tag so think this will just be a wishlist item and not a buylist item.

And finally I need your advice, I bought these shorts in Primark today, and you can buy a matching blazer to go with it, do you think I can go there? Could I pull it off? I like the idea of short suits, just not sure about them on me??

stylist trend on trial, trialled: classic smokey eye with a catwalk update

This week's Trend on Trial was so far away from my comfort zone, I couldn't even see my comfort zone anymore.  Don't get me wrong, I love a flick of black eyeliner across the top lid, that's my signature look, but a double eyeliner flick, one on the top AND on the bottom?

I almost uttered the words in a childlike sulk 'I'm not doing trends on trial anymore', but I didn't, how hard could this be?  I followed Joanna's suggestion and used a gel eyeliner, carefully applying a think line across my top lid, and then a parallel line along the bottom, cotton bud in hand to correct any mistakes (there were a lot!) and I finally breathed out, I'd done it! Then I realised I had to do both eyes, thankfully the secret to this look is that it is not supposed to be perfect, in fact, the word 'imperfect' is even used in Joanna's feature!! So I did a little bit of smudging, a bit of tidying up and a final sweep to extend both the lines out and I'm done, the classic smokey eye with a catwalk update!
So, what did I think of it? Well, the Marios Schwab models made it look stunning...but they're models, and Joanna looks rock chick chic with an edge of sophistication, me? I think I just look a little bit silly.  I'm just not cool enough for eyes this bold! Edie Sedgwick is one of my all time fashion idols, she would make this look good, give me her wardrobe and her personality and I might just be able to pull it off.

Although, yes, there is an although, looking at the pictures, I don't hate it, it does look kinda cool, and teamed with the right outfit, for the right occasion (ok, a 60s fancy dress party!) I think I might just be prepared to leave the house with it.  But put it this way, I'm not going to be rocking into work on Monday morning with this one!

What do you think? Are you brave enough to go bold?

P.S. Yes, I am rocking two different hairstyles in these photos, I was clutching at straws...anything to try and make this look work!!

ayo clothing- peace, love and skulls

I was recently contacted by Branded Lab and asked if I would be interested in writing a post about a brand called Ayo Clothing, I’ve got to admit I was pretty dubious and not really prepared to write a post about a brand that I not only had never heard of, but knew absolutely nothing about!  I started this blog because fashion in particular is something I’m passionate about, I dedicated posts to both Zara and Dahlia because quite simply, I love their clothes, not because I felt I was going to get anything out of it!

So I was ready to decline the offer to write about Ayo Clothing…then I saw their Lookbook and oh my I changed my tune!! Ayo Clothing is a Parisian brand (and we all know those Parisians invented style!) with the brains of Pret a Porter’s Creative Director behind it.   The brand is described as ‘A simplified and cleverly modern mix of subversive rock and uncluttered style’, and the designs are centred around skulls, peace signs, and love hearts… and that is where they had me!!

The promise of the brand is that the clothes are comfortable, think t-shirts, vests and jumpers but with an air of luxury…sourcing soft, high quality fabrics (yes, that means cashmere!!) and most importantly they have edge!  Every aspect of these clothes has been thought about, they’re modern but not outlandish, they have stuck to what they are trying to achieve, which I like, and they have maintained their brands identity.
One of the elements that most appealed to me about their items is the slight hint of rock chick they have about them.  They’ve gone down the skulls route but have kept it simple, with a mainly black, white and grey palette and an occasional splash of colour, the clothes aren’t just wearable, they’re subtly striking and I predict soon to be highly sought after in the UK…Sarah Harding has already been sporting wearing one of their skull print vests and I could definitely imagine the likes of Daisy Lowe, Kate Moss and Fearne Cotton rushing to get their hands on these.  But with the additional element of luxury they might even be followed by our very own Princess, Kate Middleton?!
I have high hopes for this brand, and I don’t think I’ll be let down.  They’re already big news across Europe, and given a little bit more time, I think everyone will be talking about them in the UK.

So, what do you think? Which is your favourite piece? I’ve got to say, mine is definitely the white skull print vest, and the LOVE one, oh and the union jack designs and, I give up, I can’t choose just one!

If you like this brand as much as me, then you can find more about Ayo Clothing and the UK Stockists here (Keep an eye out for other brands featured  by Richardson & Squibb who are the brains behind bringing this brand to the UK).

something a little bit different

I started this blog as a fashion, beauty AND lifestyle blog, hence the name all about the girl.  So today I am bringing you my first lifestyle post.  Last night, the boy and I went to a gig at The Troubadour in Earl's Court, this is part of the boy's 'see more gigs in 2012' New Years Resolution.  Which as New Years Resolutions go, I think it's a pretty good one, especially as he was paying!

It was the first time I've ever been to The Troubadour, and I absolutely loved it! It reminded me of a Parisian cafe, off the back streets where the locals (not the tourists) hang out..I say reminded me, I've never been to Paris so I wouldn't know...it's my romantic notion of how I imagine Paris to be? The boy and I have vowed to go back there one evening, have some food and spend the night drinking wine, enjoying the cosmopolitan atmosphere.  Even when we left at 10.30 the cafe was still in full swing and people looked like they had no intention of leaving anytime soon.

Downstairs is a perfect, intimate gig venue, with a handful of small round tables and it was here that we watched the fabulous Polly Paulusma.  Now, I'd never heard of Polly so had no expectations, but she had the most beautiful voice and her music was really lovely.  She was also very entertaining and absolute pleasure to watch.  Her husband was broadcasting the gig live last night so if you want to check it out, then go listen to it here, you won't be disappointed!

And I couldn't finish this post without at least one picture of my ugly mug, so here I am in all my glory :) and a picture of the venue...sorry for the poor quality!

I hope you enjoyed my first lifestyle post :) and if you're London based then definitely go check out The Troubadour!!  I'm off to the Men In Black 3 Premiere tonight, and it's the boys birthday tomorrow so it's a pretty exciting week!

marilyn monroe and purple tights outfit post

1. H&M Marilyn Monroe Tee
2. Oasis Grey Cardigan
3. H&M Black Shirt
4. M&S Purple Tights

Check me out and my polite poses in these photos, I'm still finding the whole posing for photos things  kinda awkward, how some of you girls are brave enough to take them outside I do not know! And this is just me and the boy in our bedroom.  Any tips welcome...

Also, coming up with titles for my posts? That's even harder than the poses, so I've just decided to say what it is...much easier!   You can't really tell on these pictures but the tights really are purple.

This was my outfit on Sunday for a wander round the shops then off to the cinema.  The boy and I went to see Dark Shadows, unfortunately we were both very disappointed.  As a big Johnny Depp fan, and having seen the adverts I had a high hopes, but it was really just a big let down.  Sorry, if any of your planning on seeing it but I really wouldn't recommend it.

I don't really have much to say about this outfit, it's my casual weekend kinda look and I hope you like it...if you don't, well? Too bad, I've already worn it!

Do your outfits differ much during the week from the weekend?

weekend wishlist #8

So I'm keeping my weekend wishlist short and sweet this week.  Normally, I just list all the things I'd quite like to have in my wardrobe, in fact I think the only thing I've bought so far that I actually featured in a wishlist was a Revlon Lip Butter and the ASOS maxi skirt I featured here.  I actually ended up sending that back because it was nothing like it looked in the picture...very disappointing :(

So, this week these are the items I actually intend to buy...at some point in the nearish future.

1.  I tried this dress on today and loved the back of it (hence why I included the picture!) it's really unusual but a lovely feature.  I just wasn't totally convinced by the colour, it's slightly more mustardy/greeny/dark yellow than these pictures show it as and I'm just not sure I have the right skin tone for it.  However, I asked the shop assistant and she said they may get it in soon in other colours, so fingers crossed.  What do you guys think of this colour?  All comments welcome.
2.  If you didn't see this post on the quest for the perfect summer wedge, then why not? (only joking!) But anyway, I've decided I'm going to take the plunge and buy these.  They are the lucky ones.
3.  So I wanted these leggings after seeing Lily wearing them a lot, and then Kat from JemimaandTed mentioned she'd got them and loved them so then I had to get them!!!  I actually bought them last week as part of my ASOS haul, but I got a large (sz12) and they were just too big - baggy on the knees, so I'm gonna go try them on in the smaller size.  Definitely think they're going to be a regular feature in outfit posts though so sorry in advance, haha!

What's on your wishlist this week?  Feel free to send links my way and tempt me with beautiful things :)

stylist trend on trial, trialled: air hostess glamour

I was pretty excited when I read this week's trend on trial was air hostess glamour, the Dior model used as an example in the feature looked stunning and Joanna looked pretty glam too.  Then I read the small print...it seems less is more is not the case for this look, apparently the more the better!!

So I set to, layering and contouring, which quickly lead to more piling than layering (sorry beauty experts but I'm just not very good at this).  I then styled my hair in an attempt at a bun/chignon and ta-da, here are the results:

I'm not used to such bright lipstick so I felt very made up, but, I definitely felt glamorous!  The hairstyle is not something I would usually sport, and whipped out immediately after I took these photos, but with the hair down I felt very sexy secretary off for after-work drinks (remember that advert where she takes her glasses off and takes her hair down?!).

This look is bold, and as with a bright lipstick it requires a high level of up- keep.  For the right occasion I would definitely wear it again, for the lunch with the girls I'm about to head out on? Think I'll tone it down a bit...

So what do you think? Will you be trying out hair hostess glamour anytime soon?

pearls and lace outfit post

1. River Island Lace Top
2. Gap Legging Jeans
3. Leather Platform Court Shoes - BridalShoesUK

Sorry to disappoint, I bet you thought you were getting underwear photos with a title like that, hey?! I love the idea of having philosophical and exciting title posts but I can just never think of them...so I just stick with plain, boring and straight to the point!

This is what I wore to go out with the boy for 'date night' on Saturday, we went to the cinema and then to Jamie's Italian Restaurant at Westfield.  If you haven't already been I would HIGHLY recommend it (yep, the highly deserved capitalisation!) the food was amazing, it's very reasonably priced and the restaurant had a really lovely and relaxed atmosphere.

So, anyway, less about the food, more about the outfit! This River Island top was a Christmas present from the boy's parents, and it's perfect for me, gotta love a bit of lace, and the detailing down the back is really lovely too. It's been my go-to top since I got it.  I do sometimes wear it with a vest underneath but I don't think it shows it off to it's full potential that way.  And as the boy was taking me out for dinner, I thought I'd repay the favour with a cheeky bit of cleavage, haha!

I'm also wearing the Tutti Frutti Revlon Lip Butter I reviewed here, I literally haven't stopped wearing it since I bought it.  Have any you tried them yet?  And can you recommend any of the other colours, I'm thinking of stocking up!

all about the girl
xx

Oh, if you wondering why the shoes are from a random Bridal Shoes website, this tiny little boutique shop is in the village where my parents live (and I am from!) and I actually bought them for a wedding.  They don't look particularly high on this picture, but they are.  However, they are THE most comfortable heels I have ever owned, I survived 12 hours in them the first time I wore them which I think is pretty good going!  If you are interested, they are now in the sale for £39 and you can see a better picture here.

the quest for the perfect summer wedges

I love wedges for Summer, they're great for dressing up any outfit from floral dresses to jeans and a tee.  They're (hopefully!) more comfortable than normal heels, and I feel like I can get away with wearing them anywhere without looking overly dressed up...or dressed down, depending on the occasion.

Two Summers ago I bought these bad boys from River Island and they were ideal, admittedly I had a habit of falling over in them, but I blame the cider..not the shoes!  And yes, I am very aware that they are not actually wedges, but for some reason in my head I always think of them as being wedged heels, does anyone else ever do that with things, or is it just me?  Anyway, as much as I still love and wear these shoes I feel the time has come for a new pair of Summer sandals.  (This picture doesn't do them justice, they're much prettier in real life - and SO comfy!).

I've been on the hunt for the perfect pair for about 6 weeks now and have narrowed down my favourites for your viewing pleasures below:

1. Dune Glimmer D Gladiator Wedge - I've been eyeing these up for a while now as they're in the window of the Dune store that I walk past every morning  on my way to work.  I love these! But they are completely impractical for me, too high...sigh, but oh so pretty!

2. ASOS Hail Leather Wedges - I just spotted these this morning, the bright colours are lovely and really bring Summer to mind.  I also like that the main part of the shoe is white, so I could wear with most things...but I'm looking for shoes that literally will go with any outfit, and think all these colours is just too much!

3.  Dune Geo D - T-Bar Cork Wedge Sandal  - Dune strikes again! I literally could have selected about 20 pairs off Dune, these fell into my top ten though so I thought they deserved some dedicated space on here.  My reserves with these ones...a little bit too, dare I say it, boring??

4. Topshop Walcott T Bar Leather Wedges - ahh Topshop, slowly weaning it's way back into my good books. They're white so good for all occasions, a reasonably sized heel, £45 so not too pricey...I'm yet to find a flaw!

5. New Look Brown Rapture Leather Strappy Wedge - Dark brown leather? I like.  A few studs? again I like. A good sized heel? Borderline. Price? £50.00 - it's not a bad price, but it's not a New Look price either...also I don't think they look like they're going to be uber comfy! And comfort is the key.

6. Zara Jute Wedge with Straps - Zara who can do no wrong at the moment! These beauts are unfortunately above my price range at £69.99, I know that's not unreasonable but I have other things to buy...like, dresses, make up, err more shoes!!

7. Office Water Gilly Wedge - And now for these little beauties.  Yesterday morning my email pinged with a newsletter from Office and these babies were smack bang in the middle! I LOVE them.  A colour that will match everything, perfect sized heel, £50.00 so affordable, and the best bit??? Office's social networker/media person/twitterer even informed me that they are REALLY comfortable.  I know where I'm heading after work tonight!

Have any you guys found any summer sandals that may be even better than any of the above? Let me know, there's still time for me to change my mind....
